playwriting

I’ve been writing for the theatre since 2017. Since then, my work has been commissioned and performed locally in Portland and in Chicago. Over the past few years, however, my focus has been on developing my musical writing skills, working specifically on lyric writing and music composition. You can find some of my projects, both completed and in progress, below.

If my work excites you, please reach out! I have plenty of fully-developed pitches I’d love to share.

The Nine

My first 10-minute play, “The Nine” remains a great example of my approach to playwriting. While I have since developed my ability to write more complex characters with natural dialogue, “The Nine” is a glimpse into one of the things I love about theatre—its unique capacity for surrealism. Read it here.

EMBER

Exploring the idea of conservation and humans’ relationship with nature, EMBER is a new musical about a girl named Alice whose life is spared by a forest fire. This show is currently in progress, but check back for updates and excerpts from the show!

They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?

A musical adaptation of Horace McCoy’s novel by the same name, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They exports an already great story to the form it was always meant to take—musical theatre. A collaboration with playwright George Corrin, this show is awaiting copyright expiration to begin rehearsing.
